About VCU
As Virginia’s largest and most diverse metropolitan university, VCU offers 60 baccalaureate, 67 master’s and 28 doctoral degrees, as well as professional degrees in dentistry, medicine, nurse anesthesia practice, occupational therapy, pharmacy and physical therapy, providing you with the liberal arts background and professional training for your chosen fields.
Our 2,878 full- and part-time instructional faculty come from the finest American and international institutions of higher education. Actively engaged in research and publishing original works, 89 percent of the faculty hold the terminal degrees awarded in their fields. Committed to teaching, research and public service, faculty members incorporate theory, experimentation and state-of-the-art technology in their classroom presentations. Beyond traditional lectures, they involve students in research and hands-on activities. In their students, they cultivate the ability to analyze, reason and apply academic principles in real-life situations.
Internships, cooperative education and work-study programs with private industry and government agencies augment classroom instruction for students in many programs. For all of our students, the city of Richmond and the surrounding counties serve as a vast living, learning laboratory. Some of the most modern health care facilities in the nation, dozens of museums and libraries, the seat of state government, a rich history and a thriving economy provide a wealth of opportunities for employment, for research and for students to apply their newly developed skills.
More than 130,000 VCU graduates are making a difference throughout the U.S. and in 72 foreign countries. Some of our graduates are founding their own successful enterprises while others hold key positions in a range of organizations, from government agencies to Fortune 500 companies.
